Triumph Over Death (Anastasis) - Icon Reproduction

This icon depicts the "Descent into Hell," Jesus' gift of paradise to those who waited in the abode of the dead before the Paschal Mystery. Christ, dressed in the white robe of resurrection, calls Adam and Eve forth from their tombs, while at His feet, the shattered gates of hell and their keys fall into the abyss. This icon, written by Sister Marie-Paul Farran, O.S.B., is firmly rooted in the traditional Byzantine style.
